Hi. I’m Brian.
I started playing AD&D with my friends back in the 1980s on weekends in my friend’s basement. We created characters and worlds. We battled nefarious forces. We ate snacks and drank peach juice. And I tortured the DM’s erasers. We left the school work behind for a few hours and became heroes.
Fast forward to today and I’m playing D&D 5th Edition with those same friends and we’ve added some new ones. Instead of that basement though, we’re playing online because our players span three time zones. We’re still creating characters and worlds. We still battle nefarious forces. We still eat snacks but I’m drinking orange juice. I haven’t asked what others are drinking. The erasers are conspicuously missing. We leave work and commitments behind for a few hours and still become heroes.
Whether forty years ago or today one thing remains true: I just want to tell a fantastical story with my friends.
